Doceri Desktop can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software

This error message is common to many applications downloaded outside of Apple's proprietary ecosystem. As has long been the case, Apple inserts additional obstacles into the installation process for any application that was not downloaded through their stores and for which they have not received a portion of the payment. Therefore, you are likely to receive a warning message if you try to install Doceri Desktop in the same manner as applications purchased from Apple.

Instead of double-clicking on the installer downloaded from our download page—and you should trust only the ones downloaded directly from us, as any found on third-party sites may indeed have been altered to include malware—hold down the CTRL key and then click on the downloaded installer, then select Open from the resulting context menu. This will still give a warning message, but this time it will have a button that says "Open" or "Open Anyway." Once open, drag Doceri Desktop to the Applications folder as usual. Apple provides additional advice for bypassing warnings from their Gatekeeper technology in the Apple Support articles Safely open apps on your Mac and Apple can’t check app for malicious software.

Depending on the settings on your computer, you may need to repeat that process the first time you run Doceri Desktop from the Applications folder, even if you didn't have to do it at installation time. Hold down the CTRL key and click on Doceri Desktop, then select Open from the resulting context menu. This will give a warning message with a button that says "Open" or "Open Anyway." Once open, you should always be able to simply double-click on Doceri Desktop in the future.

After that, be sure to grant the necessary permissions for Doceri to function as detailed in our other help documents regarding the Security & Privacy settings introduced in macOS Big Sur, macOS Catalina, and macOS Mojave. For these settings, always select "Allow" or "OK". Selecting "Deny" or "Don't Allow" for any of them will prevent even basic Doceri Desktop functions from working. None of these settings communicate any information to Doceri or SP Controls.
